NFL Combine Training: 3 Tested Tips to Increase Fitness Performance

Best ways to Increase Fitness Performance

Whether you watch every football game on Sunday, Monday, and even Thursday night or can’t stand the sport, we can all agree that NFL professionals are some of the most highly fit individuals in the world. If you want to increase your fitness performance then you should take a page from their playbook.

To get into the league, potential recruits are put through the NFL Combine. The combine takes place over the course of several days and consists of endurance tests that challenge each athlete in a series of rigorous tests. If you are looking to improve your athleticism then there is no better method than borrowing some of the workouts used to test the very best.

1) Mix Up Your Lift

It is easy to get into a weight lifting routine. We have our tried and true tested reps. The problem with this is that our muscles get used to same workouts even if you are increasing the weight. Just like the athletes at the combine you want to increase your speed and agility. The best way to do by throwing compound movements into your regimen like power cleans and squats along with some heavy lifts.

2) Increase Fitness Performance with Real Cardio

By now, we should all know the importance of cardio. But spending a half an hour on the treadmill or elliptical is a sorry excuse for cardio. You need to get out into the open environment.

What you need is a good-sized field. From here, start the agility drills. Running across tires and around obstacles is the best way to get you ready for everything. Just imagine you are being chased by a three hundred pound linebacker. That’s sure to get you moving!

3) Get Enough Fuel

If you are reading this article, then you probably aren’t looking to shed some pounds so you can fit into that new pair of pants (although this can help for that too!). What you are really looking for is to get the most bang out of your workout.

To do this, your muscles need fuel aka glucose aka carbs. Before you hit that open field, you need to make sure you have at least 40 grams of carbohydrates coursing through veins. This will get you ready for even the most intense workout. Afterward, be sure to refuel with light proteins and a glutamine supplement.

A Couple More Things

If you are really looking to increase fitness performance you need to be sure that you stay hydrated. It is easy to get caught up in the workout, but you have to be sure to take breaks every so often so you stay hydrated. Finally, you need rest. Your muscles need time to heal so make sure you schedule one rest day per week where you just take it easy and stick to just some light walking and stretching.

So be sure to follow these top tips straight out of the NFL combine. Who knows, maybe while you’re out training in the field, you might just get scouted!
